What to use instead of Sora on iPhone, by what you used it for

Updated · Data checked on the App Store on 4 November 2026

OpenAI discontinued the Sora app and website on 26 April 2026 and the Sora API on 24 September 2026, and the app no longer has an App Store page. There is no single replacement, because people used it for different things.

For the best-looking clips, try Kling AI or Runway. If you already pay for an assistant, try the video in Grok or Gemini. For effects and templates, PixVerse Lite. For a short vertical clip paid by coins, Dora. None of them copies Sora's social feed as far as their listings say.

How we checked

On 2 November 2026 we read each app's US App Store page and Apple's lookup data, and re-read them on 4 November 2026; the vertical and sound column copies only what each listing says. What each app does comes from its own listing. We ran no quality test.

Prices change often. Check inside each app before paying.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sora still available on iPhone?

No. OpenAI says the Sora app and website were discontinued on 26 April 2026, and on 4 November 2026 its US App Store page returned a 404 and a search for Sora found no OpenAI app.

Can I still get my Sora videos?

OpenAI says you can request an export at sora.chatgpt.com/sunset and that the data is permanently deleted after any final export window. Do it as soon as you can.

Is there a Sora alternative for Android?

This page only covers iPhone apps. Dora has no Android app, but it works in a browser at doravideo.com. For the others, check Google Play yourself: we did not.

Which Sora alternative makes vertical video with sound?

Dora's listing says vertical 9:16, with sound on the models that support it. Grok's says short videos with sound but not the format. Kling lists several aspect ratios and PixVerse sound effects and lip-sync; Runway's and Gemini's listings say neither.

Can I reuse my Sora prompts?

Yes as text: paste them into another generator. Results differ by model, so expect to adjust them.

Which Sora alternative is free?

All six are free to download, and each sells plans or credits. Dora has no free video. Free allowances change, so check in the app.
